Choosing Adoption

Choosing adoption is a loving choice made by a parent who is not currently in a position to raise a child but who wants her child to have the best life possible.

It has been said that a birth mother “gives up” her child. We know that this is not an accurate picture. Choosing adoption and making an adoption plan for your child is an act of love. It is unselfish and courageous and is certainly more difficult than some other options available. Spending nine months carrying a child and then making the intentional plan to give that child a certain kind of life is one of the bravest acts in the world.

Fortunately, in today’s world, birth mothers are able to maintain contact and get updates on their child and adoptive families want to provide that. There is an old saying that “it takes a village to raise a child”, and there is a lot of truth to that. This child will have the benefit of two mothers who love him/her, two families and a life that is chosen by one mother so the other mother can be there daily. It is a labor of love and such a child is fortunate indeed to be special enough to be the subject of so much love.

Choosing adoption can help a birth mother get through a time in her life when she may not be able to parent; it can help the child she loves have the life she wants for him/her; and it can provide an otherwise childless family with the child they so desperately seek. Handled correctly, it is a win-win-win situation, even though there will be difficult and some sad times during the process. Adoption is a positive choice for life.
