Adoption Transition, Bringing Baby Home
Step back and consider that although you and your home have been preparing for bringing baby home, the child had no transition time – One day – there you were, and everything the baby/child was familiar with changed. So what should you do if child is having some difficulty adjusting?
The most important thing you can do is acknowledge it could take some time, and to not take it personally if your baby/child isn’t as head over heels for you at first sight as you were them. Consider that this child has not been in a ‘family’ situation.
Be slow when introducing them to new things, whether people, toys, foods, etc. As you do, you will be able to better gauge the child’s personality and temperament, and help them adapt to their new and exciting life as part of your loving family.
