The Purpose of the Adoption Homestudy
The Adoption Homestudy is a screening of the prospective adoptive parent’s home and life prior to an adoption. Every adoptive family, regardless of which type of adoption they choose, is required to have an approved adoption Homestudy. The Adoption Homestudy has three primary purposes:
1. Educate and prepare the adoptive family for adoption.
2. Evaluate the fitness of the adoptive family. This includes preparation, health, financial security, and background checks.
3. Gather information about the prospective adoptive parents that will help a licensed adoption agency, and social worker connect the family with a child whose needs they meet.
